Tano Tena! Governor Kimemia Receives Clearance From IEBC To Vie For A Second Term

Governor kimemia has finally been cleared by IEBC today to vie for the governorship in August. He will be vying for a second term as the county boss of nyandarua county. He will be flying the Jubilee party ticket as the preferred candidate during the party primaries.

Francis Kimemia’s clearance by the IEBC has been warmly received by his supporters. Those who accompanied him to the IEBC’s officers didn’t hide their joy after their governor received the go-ahead.

Kimemia’s running mate

A week ago Kimemia dropped his running mate after he failed to meet IEBC requirements. He went on to choose Isaac Maina Gitura as his nominee for the running mate’s position. His first preferred candidate Engineer Joseph Mungai Mbugua failed to resign six months before the date of the election. This left Kimemia with no option but to choose another running mate.  Mbugua was the regional director of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA).

According to the law, all civil servants by February 9, 2022, ought to have resigned if they were vying for any elective seat. Mbugua failed to adhere to this law thus Kimemia chose his replacement.

Nyandarua Governorship aspirants

Ndirangu Badilisha of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Assembly Speaker Ndegwa Wahome of Chama Cha Kazi (CCK), and former Governor Waithaka Kirika of the Service Party will be challenging the incumbent governor (TSP). However, the report claims that the fight is clearly between Mr Kimemia and Mr Badilisha.

Mr. Kimemia served as Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Public Service under President Mwai Kibaki’s administration, as well as temporarily as Secretary in the Cabinet Office under President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration. To win a second term, he’ll need the talents he learned throughout his long career as a civil servant.

He had already overcome his first test when the Jubilee Party chose him as its presidential candidate against former Water Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki
